From bagging groceries to $3 billion operations.
My first job was bagging groceries at 15. Over the next two decades I worked my way up to running one of the most complex operations in Australian retail: roughly $3 billion in annual revenue, 200 supermarkets, three states, and close to half the country's landmass.
That climb came at a cost. Twenty years in the corporate world meant missing a lot of family time and giving more of myself than I had to spare. Somewhere along the way I realised how stacked the system is against hardworking people who just want to get ahead and break out of the rat race.
A fresh approach to property.
The part I always loved was the people and the teams, and helping someone build real wealth is about as rewarding as work gets. My old man spent 30 years in financial planning, and a lot of how I think about money traces back to him. I've taken that thinking and built a fresh approach to property.
As a kid my favourite game was Monopoly: buy up the streets, build houses, then hotels. I've ended up doing a version of it for real. I built a property portfolio from the ground up, and I'm now moving into hotels with cash flow positive assets built to generate income. That's what Barnes Estates is about, taking what I've learned the hard way and helping other people do the same.

Built the hard way.
Passing it on.
I started on the shop floor and kept getting handed bigger teams before I felt ready. I was usually the youngest in the room: youngest store manager in my area, youngest group manager in Woolworths history at 26, State Director by 35 across 193 stores, 9,000 staff and $2.8 billion in revenue. I built a portfolio alongside it, now around $8 million in Perth property and $1.5 million in Geonet holdings.
Being young got used against me more than once, and a few good leaders backed me through it. Passing that on is overdue.
I'm opening a few discounted mentoring places. Only a few, because my businesses keep me busy and the people I take on should get real time. If you're stepping into a bigger role, or building a career and an investment life at once, that's ground I've covered.
